 Paola Mendoza (Author/Director/Actress), Lemon Anderson (Poet/Playwright/Actor), and Kristoffer Diaz (Playwright) shared their art work and stories in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.

BIOS:

Paola Mendoza - Paola Mendoza is an actress, director, screenwriter and author. As a director she was named one of Filmmaker Magazine 25 New Faces of Independent Film. She has directed both short and feature length films, ENTRE NOS, HALF OF HER, AUTUMN’S EYES, and LA TOMA have been embraced by the most prestigious film festivals around the world. Ms. Mendoza first novel THE ONES WHO DON"T STAY was recently published by Penguin Books.

Lemon Anderson - Lemon Andersen is a poet, spoken word artist and actor. He first garnered national attention appearing in Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam on Broadway in 2002, which won a Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event and netted Andersen a Drama Desk nomination for his writing. Andersen also appeared in eight episodes of HBO’s ode to spoken word, Def Poetry. Anderson's newest work, ToasT, was commissioned by the Sundance Institute and will be staged at The Public Theater in 2013.

Kristoffer Diaz - Kristoffer Diaz is a playwright and educator living and working in Brooklyn. Full-length titles include The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, Welcome to Arroyo’s, The Upstairs Concierge, and The Unfortunates. Awards: 2011 New York Times Outstanding Playwright Award; finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama; winner, 2011 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play; winner, 2011 OBIE Award, Best New American Play; and the inaugural Gail Merrifield Papp Fellowship from The Public Theater (2011).

Moderated by Claudio Iván Remeseira - Claudio Iván Remeseira is a New York-based award-winning journalist, writer and cultural critic. Writing Contributor to NBC Latino and editor of HIspanic New York, a blog on Latino & Latin American current events and culture. Hew is also editor of Hispanic New York: A Sourcebook (Columbia University Press, 2010), an anthology of essays on the city’s Latino, Latin American and Iberian cultural heritage.
